Unknown Tom and Jerry (1955) - Publicity Cel

It wasn't until I came across an almost identical image in Charles Solomon's book that I realized that this was probably a publicity cel and not a cel from a film. Regardless, it was a nice piece. Large and full of life.

Since I don't have very many Tom and Jerry cartoons, I can't tell if the background is from a real film or not. At any rate, I thought you might enjoy it...

Tom and Jerry Publicity Cel on Original Background

----- DATABASE NOTES -----

From “Tom and Jerry” (1955) -- publicity cel. Cel of Tom holding open sandwich for Jerry on a “original painted MGM background.” [Image: 11-7/8"W x 8-7/8"H] SeqID 0326

Reference: Page 169. Solomon, Charles. The History of Animation: Enchanted Drawings. SeqID 1510 In the book, it calls this a "publicity cel."

On 11/13/2000 the issue of publicity cel was discussed with Seller. He could not say whether or not the cel was production or specially prepared. Stu: "From the late 1950's. Original painted MGM background."
